Lower 48 Overview
The Lower 48 represents the largest ConocoPhillips business segment today based on production, with high-quality positions in the U.S. unconventionals. These low cost of supply and low GHG-intensity assets have significant upside potential.
The company’s large Lower 48 position of 10.3 million net acres, including unconventional holdings of approximately 1.7 million net acres, represents scalable inventory with low cost of supply and low GHG emissions intensity with the potential to generate significant returns over many years of future development. Current major focus areas for the Lower 48 include the Delaware and Midland Basins, part of the world-class Permian Basin, as well as the Eagle Ford and Bakken.
In 2022, net crude oil production was 534 MBOED.Description
The GCR Wells Engineering Manager reports to the GCR Wells Manager and leads a multi-functional team focused on the planning, design and technical support for the drilling and completion of wells across both the Eagle Ford and Bakken assets. In addition, the position manages a team which provides inputs that feed into the budget and long-range plans for the BU and has remit for the Wells Digital Strategy efforts for GCR Drilling, Completions and Interventions. This position works closely with the GCR Wells Operations Manager and BU peers throughout the lifecycle of wells and ensures that industry and company standards and best practices are implemented.

Job Description
Your responsibilities may include:
- Developing strategies that ensure the safety of all company and contract personnel associated with the implementation of work scope. Works closely with COP and Partner HSE personnel to ensure full compliance with all facets of the Company's health, safety and environmental protection policies
- Providing ongoing development and mentoring of approximately 30 company personnel including 5 direct reports. The candidate will develop his or her direct reports such that they are capable of effectively interacting with other teams and potentially assume the duties and responsibilities of the Wells Engineering Manager. Team members should also be trained to a level that would allow their successful movement throughout the COP Wells organization
- Managing engineering teams for drilling, completions, and planning to assist in the safe, efficient and environmentally acceptable delivery of approximately $1.6B in annual D&C capital spend. This includes the support of 9-10 drilling rigs, 3-4 frac spreads, and 2-3 coil tubing units across two geographically diverse basins
- Works closely with Finance and BU Development and Planning resources to develop and maintain capital and operational expense forecasts, long range plans, operations schedules and performance tracking tools
- Helps to guide ongoing technology and optimization efforts within the GCR and coordinates with Global Wells Chiefs and subject matter experts in areas that will benefit COP globally
- Ensures that a performance and continuous learning culture is maintained within the Well Engineering team
- Interfaces with Supply Chain to develop contracting strategies and implement work plans that ensure all third-party services are available and contracted at competitive rates to ensure work is executed per plan safely and efficiently
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with other members of the Wells Management community to ensure Knowledge Sharing and use of the best management practices across the L48 and Global Wells
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering, or related Engineering discipline or foreign equivalent
- 15+ years of petrotechnical engineering experience
- 5+ years of supervisory experience
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel up to 20% on an annual basis
Preferred:
- Previous management/leadership experience over drilling, completions and well intervention organizations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills that ensure the candidate's ability to effectively influence others
- Vocal, visible safety leader internally and externally
- Understanding of Process Excellence and the establishment of appropriate processes to improve safety and business performance
- Self-starter with highly developed personal initiative and planning skills
- Proven track record of safety performance, cost control and streamlining operations to optimize and deliver on targets
- Thorough understanding of all financial aspects of drilling, completions and well intervention including budgeting, cost review, economic impact of costs
- Ability to build strong vendor relationships with key contractors and utilize those relationships to improve organizational performance
- Able to manage multiple complex tasks in a high intensity/activity environment
- Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
- Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
