The Piping/Stress Engineer will provide technical pipe stress analysis design support to operations and maintenance, small capital projects & routine turnaround outages. As time allows, the engineer will also manage small capital projects.
Responsibilities May Include:
Using Caesar II Piping Stress Analysis Software to evaluate piping designed by others
Using stress analysis techniques including expansion loop sizing, use of guides, stops and anchors, and reducing equipment nozzle loads
Sizing and selecting variable spring and constant pipe supports and their components
Reviewing proposed mechanical designs, by others, to ensure adequacy and code/company standard compliance
Ensuring designs meet piping code B31.3 and company specifications
Evaluate equipment nozzles as they apply to the following codes:
WRC 107/297 Vessel nozzles
API 610 Centrifugal Pumps
API 617 Compressors
NEMA 23 Steam Turbines
API 661 Air Cooled Heat Exchangers
API 560 Fired Heaters
Applying knowledge of various pipe supports types and their use
Applying knowledge of piping design concepts, pipe fittings and their use
Reading and understanding piping, structural, P&ID and equipment drawings
Managing numerous (>20) projects/activities, meeting all deadlines
Developing mechanical design work for minor to intermediate size projects
Specifying, procuring and installing replacement piping, valves, mechanical parts, etc.
Leading/participating in failure analysis of equipment
Ensuring repairs and changes are in accordance with MOC and MI processes
Ensuring continuous professional development as well as assisting with developing other engineers
Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Possess valid Driver's License
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
5 or more years of experience in a refinery/petrochemical/industrial operating environment
5 or more years of experience working with Caesar II Piping Stress Analysis Software (or equivalent)
Intermediate Proficient in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Willingness and ability to perform/comply with wearing required personal protective equipment including fall protection, climbing ladders and stairs and working outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Willing and able to maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Preferred Qualifications:
The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
